Welcome
Welcome to Art by Max M – thanks for visiting and considering a commission. My commissions focus mainly on portraits of people and pets, usually from photographs, These are produced on canvas boards and exclusively in oil paints. Enjoy looking around and find the steps to commission my work. I’d love to talk about your requirements and am open to considering different subjects and sizes of canvas.
Classic Portraits
Portraiture is my first love. I don’t aim for photo realism, but for a strong likeness in a painterly style. I like close-ups of head and shoulders, but you’ll see from paintings in the gallery that I also offer full body (this works well for portraits of children).
Pet Portraits
I love my own pets and very much enjoy capturing a pet’s character and personality.
Still Life and More…
Although portraits of people and pets are my focus I hope the gallery shows the range of subjects that I cover. Please have a look and if there’s something that you’re keen to see in a painting let me know.
The Commisioning Process – step by step
Step One – Get in touch
Get in touch using the contact form at the bottom of this page. Use the message box to tell me about your initial ideas, the subject of the painting and what size. Also note if there are paintings in the gallery that you like to the style of.
Step Two – Agreeing the Commision
I’ll contact you by email initially and you can send me any photographs to help with the process. We can also arrange a phone or video call if you prefer. This is a really important part of the process ensuring we’re both happy and clear about the commision. I may ask for more photo’s until we can find an image that I can use. It’s worth spending the time on this part to make sure we get it right. Once agreed, a deposit of 25% to cover materials is payable.
Step Three – Work in Progress
Your commision will take between 8 – 10 weeks depending on size and number of subjects. When it’s almost complete, I’ll send a photo so you can be sure it’s what you want, and I can make some final adjustments. When you’re happy, the balance is payable and then the painting is sent (depending on size) by Royal Mail’s Next Day Special Delivery or UPS.
I commissioned Maxine to paint a portrait of our grand daughter from a digital photo and hoped for the best. The result was amazing! Maxine captured the innocence of a child playing on the beach, wind in her hair and sand running through her fingers….pure magic, Summer on a Summer day.
